The study, conducted by scientists from the French Hospital in examined the differences in height at maturity in children born SGA and children with normal birth length. A study by a total of 1,620 men and women, 734 of them born SGA, the remaining 886 subjects had normal birth length.

Smaller birth weight, reduced adult height - The patients, both men and women, who were born SGA, grew over their healthy peers were slower and in adulthood significantly reduced both body weight and height. Men were on average lower by almost 5 cm, 4 cm of women than their healthy peers growing up in the same conditions. In the study there was no correlation between lower body height and sex. Parents of children who were born as SGA, but most were also smaller than their peers.
